Large aluminium windows and curtain wall provide plenty of light

GaiaZOO, the zoo in Kerkrade in the province of Limburg, makes adjustments and renovations every year to improve the welfare of the animals and continue to surprise visitors.

Eussen Bouw provided a new business card: a new entrance building, new cash registers, toilets and a completely new shop. For this new entrance building, they opted for glass sections that provide plenty of light and a pleasant atmosphere in the building.

The building partners opted for Star 75 windows and the MC Wall curtain wall system combined with structural blinds from Aliplast Aluminium Systems.

The construction consists of a timber frame with laminated timber columns with beams of up to 16 metres. Prefabricated HSB walls were used between the frame, insulated with natural insulation material. To add a warm touch, the exterior was finished with wooden cladding and beautiful accents of natural stone. Large windows were also integrated into the façade. A local partner supplied and installed the aluminium window and curtain wall systems from the Belgian manufacturer Aliplast.

Star 75 aluminium windows

The building partners opted for Star 75 windows. These windows have a sleek shape and a very good insulation value. With a Uw value of 0.94 W/m²K, an airtightness class 4 and an acoustic value of 47.1 dB (-1,-4), this solution meets the most stringent requirements in terms of thermal and acoustic insulation. Moreover, these windows have a fire resistance certificate EW30 and EI30. This system has an installation depth of 75 mm for the outer frame and 84 mm for the sash and is suitable for glass thicknesses between 12 and 61 mm for the frame and between 21 and 69 mm for the sash.

MC Wall curtain wall and shading in one solution

In addition to the windows and doors, the all-in-one curtain wall MC Wall immediately catches the eye.

The MC WALL offers designers the necessary thermal performance and meets the creative needs of architects. Fully compatible with Aliplast window and door systems, the MC WALL range can be used to create a wide range of architectural compositions. Indeed, this curtain wall has a wide variety of stiles, rails and finishing profiles on a uniform 55 mm line.

The rails are available up to a depth of 294 mm, the stiles up to 326 mm. This solution is suitable for glass thicknesses up to 74 mm. With a Uf value of 1.5 W/m²K, an air tightness class AE1300, a water tightness class RE1500 and an acoustic value of up to 38 dB (-2,-6), this system scores highly in all areas.

The large glass areas, on the one hand, provide plenty of light and ample transparency, but increase the risk of overheating in the various rooms. Limiting solar radiation on hot days was therefore crucial. The aluminium slats of the MC Wall are an ideal solution for this: several variants are available, with or without integration of curtain walls. All elements were painted in colour 7022, a warm grey shade of the classic anthracite colour. We give a 15-year guarantee on this colour.

The combination of the Star 75 windows and the MC Wall curtain wall façade creates a brilliant, inviting entrance building.
