During the transformation of the former Honig factory ‘De Bij’, aluminium joinery was also chosen. This piece of industrial heritage in Koog aan de Zaan was repurposed into a residential project with 21 lofts in the existing building and a new construction containing 74 apartments. The architectural challenge? Preserving the authentic appearance while meeting modern standards for comfort, energy efficiency, and fire safety.
The original steel windows of the industrial building were replaced with the Max Light Steel system from Aliplast. This aluminium profile retains the robust, industrial character of the building while offering greater resistance to rust and improved insulation. With a Uf-value of 1.8 W/m²K, excellent airtightness (class 4), and fire resistance (certificates EI30 and EW30/60), the system meets all modern standards without compromising the historical character.
